1. Enjoy a day of sweet family fun in Hershey

Hershey, The Sweetest Place On Earth®, is a short 15 mile drive away and offers iconic family-friendly entertainment at Hersheypark® and Hershey's Chocolate World Attraction. Get your thrills on more than 70 rides and attractions, go on a simulated chocolate factory tour, & shop exclusive candies. Hersheypark® is open 10am-9pm Monday-Thursday and 10am-10pm Friday-Sunday. Hershey's Chocolate World is open 9am-10pm Monday-Thursday and 9am-11pm Friday-Sunday.

2. Explore the state capitol & local history

Did you know that Harrisburg is Pennsylvania's capital city? Schedule a free tour of the state capitol building which is often considered one of the most beautiful in the nation. Harrisburg offers a variety of museums such as the State Museum of Pennsylvania and the National Civil War Museum. Hershey is also home to several museums, including The Hershey Story, Museum on Chocolate Ave and the AACA Museum which is a car lovers paradise. Get the full guide on museums in the region here

 

Hiking with a View Hawk Rock

3. Choose an outdoor adventure

 Hike forested ridgelines with sweeping views of the Susquehanna Valley. Hawk Rock in nearby Duncannon offers one of the best views along the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania. When you're done, don't miss a stop at Lindgren Brewery - the only brewery located directly along the Appalachian Trail.

 Explore the Susquehanna River and other waterways by kayak with a local outfitter or alongside a fishing guide who will show you the best spots to reel in a big one. Bike 21 miles of beautiful scenery on the Capital Area Greenbelt or go mountain biking on rugged singletrack terrain. The region also has disc golf courses and beautifully maintained local parks.

Looking for something outdoors that is a little less "outdoorsy"? Go on a self-guided mural tour throughout Harrisburg to view more than 40 colorful works of art. This walkable mural tour route guides you past 31 murals in Midtown and Downtown.

4. Enjoy more family fun

Make a stop at Adventure Sports in Hershey to enjoy arcade games, go-karts, mini golf, outdoor laser tag, bumper boats, escape rooms, and more! Everything is pay as you go and discounts are available for groups.

Head to City Island in Harrisburg to play a round of water golf, ride the railroad, sail aboard the Pride of the Susquehanna riverboat, and grab a drink with magnificent sunset views at the Harrisburg Beach Club. Families will also enjoy a stop at the Whitaker Center for Science & the Arts in Downtown Harrisburg. 

Take a tour of limestone caverns that are over 440 million years old at Echo Dell - Indian Echo Caverns near Hershey.

Animal lovers will enjoy a stop at ZooAmerica in Hershey which has over 200 mammals, birds, reptiles, and more throughout both outdoor and climate controlled habitats. If you're willing to roam a little further, Lake Tobias Wildlife Park offers a one-of-a-kind open-air safari across 150 rolling acres where bison, elk, zebras, and giraffes roam free beside your vehicle.

July 11

- 9:30am-1:30pm | Attend Market on Chocolate to shop locally-produced & artisan goods in Downtown Hershey

- 1pm | Popcorn Hat Players present Hansel and Gretel at Gamut Theatre in Harrisburg

- 3pm | Tim McGraw concert at Hersheypark Stadium

- 7-10pm |  Enjoy local music, bites and beverages during Music on Chocolate in Downtown Hershey

July 14

- 7:30pm | Alison Krauss & Union Station perform at Hershey Theatre

July 15

- 5pm | Race in the Harrisburg Mile - a flat, fun course that has something for everyone. Stick around before & after your heat for food trucks, a beer garden, kids zone, music, & more in Riverfront Park.

July 16-19

Head to venues throughout the City of Harrisburg for live entertainment, unique theatre experiences, kid-friendly shows and activities, visual art displays, and more as part of the Harrisburg Fringe Festival.

July 17

- 6-9pm | Each month, dozens of venues throughout the City of Harrisburg host special events for Third in the Burg

- 7pm | Cheer on the Harrisburg Senators (Double-A Affiliate of the Washington Nationals) & enjoy a post-game fireworks display at FNB Field in Harrisburg
